Juan Macias is know as the patron saint to the poor. He would rise at 4AM and load his donkey and wagon with food, clothing and medicine to bring to the poor. He was also know for his love for the prayer and the Rosary and giving wise council. He was born in Ribera, Spain in 1585, to a noble family and was orphaned at a young age. John went to Peru to work on a cattle ranch before entering the Dominicans at Lima as a lay brother, assigned to serve as a doorkeeper, or porter. He was known for his austerities, miracles, and visions. Juan cared for all the poor of Lima, dying there on September 16, 1645. Pope Paul VI canonized him in 1975 .
